Your home. Your choice. Your care.

July 10, 2008

On Monday, May 19, 2008, the State's Executive Office of Elder Affairs honored twenty five elders from across the Commonwealth at a State House celebration in honor of Older Americans Month. One of this year's recipients was Boston Senior Home Care's very own, Elnora Jackson. Boston Senior Home Care nominated Ms. Jackson for this distinction in recognition of her extraordinary efforts in helping to develop and maintain our supportive housing program in Dorchester, MA.

Boston Senior Home Care's Supportive Housing Program is located at the Codman Square Apartments, 784 Washington Street in Dorchester; a Boston Housing Authority site with 105 residential units The program is a collaboration between Boston Senior Home Care, the Boston Housing Authority, the Visiting Nurse Association of Boston and Kit Clark Senior Services. Ms. Jackson is the Task Force President of Codman Apartments and the Title III On-Site Meal Coordinator.

Ms. Jackson helped to create the Supportive Housing Program with her enthusiasm, commitment and encouragement of other residents to participate. She continues to be the driving force behind the success of the program and works closely with Boston Senior Home Care's on site case manager to determine appropriate programs and resources to help meet the needs of the Codman residents. Ms. Jackson is never shy in asking the first question of a guest speaker, leading the exercise line or helping a fellow tenant adjust after moving in. She is always concerned about fellow residents, refers them for needed services or encourages them to accept needed services so they can continue to live independently in their home.

In addition to all of the above, Ms Jackson is also a great grandmother raising a grandchild.

Boston Senior Home Care is honored to be working with Ms. Jackson and we congratulate her for the distinction of being recognized as an Outstanding Older American.
